General Questions
Where does your beef come from?
Old Line Prime sources beef from carefully selected regenerative farms that raise cattle with a focus on animal welfare, soil health, and long-term sustainability. As our own farm, Waverly on Chester, completes its transition to regenerative management, we partner only with producers who meet the high standards we believe in.
Is there a difference between Pasture-Raised Beef and Feedlot-Raised Beef?
Yes - both in flavor and in how the animals are cared for. Pasture-raised cattle spend the majority of their lives on grass, moving naturally and eating a diet closer to what nature intended. The result is beef with deeper flavor, better texture, and a story you can feel good about from pasture to plate.
Feedlot-raised animals spend their lives in cramped quarters, usually standing in mud and are fed a grain mixture designed to make them as fat as possible as quickly as possible.
Do you use hormones or antibiotics?
No added hormones. Antibiotics are only used when absolutely necessary to protect animal health, and any animal treated is removed from our beef program. We believe healthy cattle raised the right way don’t need shortcuts.
How is your beef processed?
All beef is processed at USDA-inspected facilities and dry-aged to enhance flavor and tenderness before being cut, vacuum-sealed, and frozen at peak freshness.
Why is your beef frozen?
Freezing locks in freshness. Our beef is frozen immediately after processing so you receive it exactly as it should be - no preservatives, no rushed shipping, no quality loss.
How long will the beef last in my freezer?
Vacuum-sealed beef will maintain peak quality for 12 months or more when kept frozen. Many cuts last even longer.
Ordering
How do I get these delicious steaks shipped to my door?
Wow! What a great question! I am so glad you asked! (LOL)
Ordering is easy. Go to "Shop Now" in the top menu. Currently, we are only selling Black Angus Boxes and Bulk packages. So go to either and select an appropriately sized order. When your order is shipped, you will receive an email with tracking information.
When will it arrive?
Orders placed by Monday evening will be shipped on Tuesday or Wednesday. That allows you to receive your order by the weekend. If you have a special request, please let Eric know. We can't make any promises, but we will try our best to make you happy. His email is: Eric@OldLinePrime.com.
What if I'm not home when the order is delivered?
Like any valuable package, someone will need to sign for the delivery. However, you do not need to unpack it immediately upon receipt. Shipping usually takes 2 to 3 days, and our insulated coolers should keep your item frozen for at least 4 days. So, no need to rush home on delivery day, but I would put it in the freezer that night.
Will it stay frozen?
Yes. Your package should arrive in 2 or 3 days. Our insulated coolers should keep items frozen for at least 4 days. However, we recommend you put your items in the freezer as soon as you can.
Should I put it in the freezer or refrigerator?
You should store all of our meats in the freezer. When you decide to cook one of them, place them in the refrigerator enough time beforehand so they gently thaw. For a thick-cut steak, that could be overnight. For a large roast, that could me several days.
Shipping
When will I get my shipment?
Beef orders are shipped overnight, via UPS. We ship on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So, if you order early in the day, you will receive your beef the next day. If you order later in the day, you will receive it the day after.
How long does shipping take?
All beef orders are shipped overnight via UPS. Merchandise order take longer.
Will my food arrive frozen?
Yes! We ship our meat in insulated containers, packed with dry ice and/or freezer packs.
Can I pick up my order?
Not at the moment. We are in the process of building out a retail/pick-up facility at our farm, Waverly on Chester Farm. However, it is not yet ready for primetime... There will be a big announcement when it is, and we hope you will come see our farm and our animals! Make sure you have signed up for our Newsletter to get all of our upcoming annoucements.
What happens if my order arrives partially thawed?
As long as the beef is still cool to the touch, it is completely safe. In the rare event of a shipping issue, just contact us - we’ll make it right.
Can I recycle the shipping container
Yes! You are free to use the box and insulated cooler if you have the need. However, if you would like to ship it back to us - free of charge - we would be happy if you did so!
After you place your order, you will receive an email with a prepaid shipping label and directions for sending both the shipping box and insulated cooler back to us. We will then use it for a future customer and avoid it going to the landfill.
Cooking
Is this beef harder to cook than grocery store beef?
Not at all—but it does reward a lighter touch. Because our beef isn’t pumped with water or additives, we recommend cooking to temperature (not time) and letting steaks rest before slicing.
Do you include cooking tips?
Yes! Many of our packages include simple cooking guidance, and we regularly share tips, recipes, and techniques to help you get the most out of every cut.
Values & Transparency
Why is Old Line Prime more expensive than grocery store beef?
Because it’s raised differently. Regenerative practices, small-scale production, humane handling, and careful processing all cost more—but they also produce better beef. We believe once you taste the difference, the value is clear.
What does “Regenerative” mean to you?
To us, Regenerative Farming means leaving the land better than we found it—healthier soil, healthier animals, and a healthier food system. It’s not about labels; it’s about long-term responsibility.
Can I visit the farm?
As our operation grows, we hope to offer on-farm events and open days. Join our mailing list to stay in the loop.
Farming & Animal Care
What is Regenerative Farming
At its core, Regenerative Farming is a farming methodology that focuses on improving the environment, not just sustaining it. When applied to raising cattle, it means that we are super focused on the pasture lands where the cattle graze. We work to build strong grasses with deep roots that cattle find more appealing and which resist drought better. A by-product is that the pasture also sequesters more carbon out of the atmosphere. What's the difference between Regenerative Farming and Organic Farming?
Organic is a rulebook. It’s defined and regulated (in the U.S. by the USDA).
It focuses on
- No synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides.
- No GMOs.
- No routine antibiotics or growth hormones.
- Approved “natural” inputs only.
- Certification, inspections, and paperwork.
What organic doesn’t guarantee:
- Healthy soil biology.
- Improved carbon sequestration.
- Animal welfare beyond minimum standards.
- Better land year over year.
You can technically farm organically and still degrade soil.
Regenerative is a philosophy and outcome. It’s about improving the land over time.
It focuses on:
- Building living, biologically active soil.
- Increasing soil carbon and organic matter.
- Using livestock to heal land (managed grazing).
- Improving water infiltration and drought resilience.
- Increasing biodiversity (plants, insects, wildlife)
Common regenerative practices:
- Minimal or no tillage.
- Cover crops and diverse plant species.
- Rotational or adaptive multi-paddock grazing.
- Keeping living roots in the soil year-round.
- Reducing all external inputs (organic or not)
What do you have against Organic Farming?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! We are big fans of Organic Farming. However, our focus is on Regenerative Farming. Most farmers - practicing either method - at their heart are working hard to make our food better, which is a concept we can completely get behind.
How are your animals treated?
We work very hard to make sure our animals lead a happy life. We make sure they have plenty of grass to graze on, water to drink and shelter from the heat and cold. We have a non-chemical fly abatement program, so they are comfortable all summer long.
For entertainment, the cows have large rubber balls they kick around, and we will soon be installing scratching posts for their enjoyment.
